Beverages: PHAA events are required to meet public health practices when it comes to service of beverages. This includes ensuring plain drinking water is provided, still or sparkling, excluding bottled water. Service of sugar sweetened beverages (for example soft drink, fruit juice) are kept to a minimum ensuring that adequate alternatives, for example fruit infused waters are available. Hot beverages for example, tea and coffee, should be served with reduced and low-fat milk options provided.
-
Food: As a minimum, we would recommend that suppliers select healthy foods and drinks (five food group foods) and limited discretionary foods consistent with the NHMRC dietary guidelines available at: www.eatforhealth.gov.au.
-
Waste Avoidance: Avoidance of disposable plates, containers, utensils, unless they are recyclable. We encourage you to avoid single use cups, plates, cutlery and packaging. Food and beverages should be served in reusable, washable containers. Reduction of waste by only supplying what is needed. If there is waste food created, adopting initiatives such as distributing healthy perishable food to food rescue organisations.
